Budget Breakdown: 5 Days in Taipei

This is the breakdown of our recent 5D4N trip to Taipei. The total damage to our pockets was $1,620.83 for both of us.

Flight: S$573.14

Via Tigerair for the both of us!

Hotel: S$517

We stayed at the super cool Sato Castle again, and this time, we picked the Iron Fan Princess (铁扇公主) themed room out of the 3 choices they showed us. Giggling like two kids, the receptionist must have thought we were being a bit too obvious as it was a love hotel, haha! But because of their well-decorated themed rooms, many families stay there too. Our room had a volcano! A volcano! The toilet also had a jacuzzi and steam room, woot!

Food: 4,311NTD (S$184.86)

Food, glorious food! I ate quite a lot of fried chicken as usual.

Transport: 1,785NTD (S$76.54)

This includes the 1,100NTD we topped up into our metro cards. We still had a bit of money leftover inside for the next time we go to Taipei!

The bus ride to and from Songshan Airport, which was a few metro stops away from our hotel, to Taoyuan Airport was 125NTD each. The journey takes about 40 to 45 minutes.

We took the Maokong Gondola from Taipei Zoo station to Maokong station (50NTD each), then backwards down to Taipei Zoo South station (40NTD each) which we paid for with our metro cards!

The remaining 185NTD was for a cab ride.

SIM card: 600NTD (S$25.73)

Data is included for 5 days, and some talk-time of duration which I can’t remember now since I didn’t even use a minute of it. We bought a SIM card each.

Entertainment: 1,010NTD (S$43.31)

We spent a crazy 710NTD on games at Shilin Night Market (士林夜市), which is about $30.45! The games are actually quite expensive at 100NTD each time, especially since it’s over after just a few minutes! We also went for a unique massage in Shilin Night Market where the masseuse ‘beats’ you with what looks like thin sticks. That costed 100NTD for about 10 minutes or so.

Clothing: 2,750NTD (S$117.92)

We bought a total of 5 LINE T-shirts from Uniqlo, which cost 390NTD each. I also bought two sweater tops at 250NTD each. Barely shopped; I’m a reformed girl, woohoo!

Personal: 1,340NTD (S$57.46)

I bought 3 bottles of sunblock since it’s much cheaper to get in Taiwan, as well as 2 tubes of lip balm. WJ got sick on the third day and we bought some medicine for his upset stomach and fever. Of all trips to not have brought the panadol and charcoal pills!

Souvenirs: 580NTD (S$24.87)

Erm. These turned out to be all food. 😀
