Almost Stranded in Ozegahara, Oze National Park

With just an hour to rush for the last bus off the peak, WJ and I hurried under the glaring sun. We lifted our aching legs up the stony steps, the last bit of the trail after walking through the grasslands and through the forest. FINALLY. We ran to the bus with just 3 minutes to spare. Sweating profusely with our legs screaming in protest, we were safe at last!

Budget Breakdown: 16 Days in Japan

We had our honeymoon in Japan and visited Osaka, Kyoto, Kanazawa, Takayama and Nagoya. Hoping to catch the autumn colours, we booked our trip for November. But unfortunately, it was a little late and we missed most of the bright orange and red leaves. In fact, it even started snowing in Takayama just as we were leaving to catch the train! Scroll on for the budget breakdown for our 16-day trip in Japan! The total damage to our pockets was less than $7.5k for the both of us. Flights: S$1,087.40 We flew by Vietnam Airlines. Shirakawa-go: Little Town of Huts

Shirakawa-go, home to cute little farmhouses which roofs are built without nails, was charming. We took the first bus from Takayama (7.20am) and reached the town in about an hour with the place almost entirely to ourselves. Taking advantage of the clear grounds before other tourists started pouring in, WJ and I went straight to the Outdoor Museum Gassho Folk Museum as soon as it opened at 8.40am.

    Takayama: Sleepy Town

Our trip to Takayama was in late November - rainy and cold. But I still loved every minute of it. I loved that the town was quiet and was devoid of crowds, and I especially loved the ryokan we stayed at! Funnily though, we still managed to bump into fellow Singaporeans there!

    Kanazawa: Of Ninjas and Gardens

WJ and I enjoyed Kanazawa. It was away from the bustling crowds and peaceful, but still had the convenience of Osaka. You could easily find a restaurant, a clothing store and plenty of convenience stores. And best off all, we could walk to most of the sights easily!

    Kyoto: Not Just Geishas

When you think of Kyoto, what comes to your mind? Geishas? Maikos? Kimonos? Those were my initial thoughts as well. But now, I think differently. Kyoto is so much more than just the geishas it's so famous for; it's a city of beauty and culture.
