Hotel Review: Tokyo Stay Shibuya
I booked Tokyo Stay Shibuya because of its convenient location and price. It was the cheapest hotel that was just a 5-minute walk to the event I was there for and had all the basic facilities.
Bed. Check.
Toilet and bath in the room. Check.
Free wifi. Check.
Free breakfast. Check.
Speaking of the buffet-style breakfast, it wasn’t a big spread. I stayed there 5 days and the selection consisted of almost the same dishes every day. Deliciously smooth scrambled eggs, sausages, spicy chicken, vegetables, tamago, seaweed, miso soup, minestrone soup, bread and rolls, cereal, orange juice and hot coffee and tea. No pictures because I was always rushing out (and practically ate the same things every morning)! I am definitely not a morning person.
The bed was placed in the corner to make full use of the small space, but the TV was in the wrong direction (if you want to lie down and watch TV on the bed. Which I do). No biggie though, since I went out every night and… There were only Japanese channels available…
You can pay 1000JPY for a video-on-demand if you’re really desperate, but the selection is not huge. And with the descriptions of the movies all in Japanese, they might be played in Japanese as well!
Tokyo Stay Shibuya is not a big chain hotel, so certain aspects may be lacking. There isn’t room service for one. But with plenty of restaurants just a stone’s throw away and a 24-hour supermarket just across the hotel, why would you want to be holed up in your room anyway?
It doesn’t come with a pool, or a gym, or any fancy facilities either. It’s pretty much just a place to sleep, have your breakfast, and go out exploring.
Being more environmentally-friendly, the hotel also doesn’t change your sheets (or even make your bed) unless you stay more than 6 nights. But not to worry, they change your towels every day and make sure you have enough toilet paper!
Basic toiletries such as body wash, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush and toothpaste, and a hairdryer are provided in the room. You can also take a razor, hairbrush, sponges, and complimentary green tea sachets in the lobby if you need them.
Even though the checkout time was stated to be 11am, the staff let me stay in another 30 minutes. Not much, but it’s better than nothing!
Overall, I have nothing to complain about Tokyo Stay Shibuya. The staff were polite, there were all the basic amenities provided, and the location was perfect for me. At that price, you might be expecting a fancier hotel. But this was Tokyo, so the price is reasonable for a clean and basic room with no frills.
I stayed in Tokyo Stay Shibuya from 24th to 28th August in the Single room. I (or rather, my company) paid 48,000JPY (S$564.71) for the 4 nights through Booking.com, which works out to be $141.18 a night.
